When I think back to my grade school days, some of my favorite (and I’m sure my mom’s least favorite) memories revolve around going to the store and buying new school supplies. What’s better than new pink erasers and a fresh pack of folders? How about a new box of freshly sharpened crayons and a composition book with crisp, clean pages just waiting for me to fill it with notes and journal entries? Sign me up!
As a kid, I had no clue that others might not look forward to purchasing new supplies for the year. I didn’t know that there were some students who weren’t able to come to school fully equipped with the most basic supplies for the year.
But now, as an adult, I’m aware. And, thanks to Restore Hope Ministries, I’m able to help children in need start the school year off on the right footing.
For the past 14 years, TTCU and Restore Hope have teamed up to collect and distribute school supplies to children in need. And for the past five years, I’ve been able to personally take part in the process - consulting with families in need and packing boxes full of new supplies for each age group.
Last month, a TTCU team took a day to serve families in need at Restore Hope. You could almost feel the joy and pride radiating off the kids’ smiling faces when they left Restore Hope with their arms full of supplies. Each family was so gracious and thankful, and it was such an honor to help children start off their school year the right way. Our team had a great time, and we’re already looking forward to next year!
